Families Reminded to Get the Flu Shot and Stop the Spread of Flu
The flu shot is free and recommended for everyone over six months of age.
It’s important to stop the spread of flu to people who may be at risk of health-related complications. Protect yourself and your family by making sure everyone gets the flu shot this year.
Influenza (or the flu) is a respiratory illness that can spread easily from person to person, especially among kids.

Health and Safety - Lead Exceedance
On October 2, 2017, the Deputy Ministry of the Ministry of Education issued a memorandum (attached) to Directors of Education, stating: "As part of on-going commitment to transparency, The Ministry of Education expects parents and guardians are made aware where a lead exceedance has been detected in the drinking water of a school or child care centre, and how the exceedance will be addressed.
As part of Avon Maitland District School Board’s strategy to create positive, inclusive learning environments and maximize outcomes for students, we are committed to providing a safe drinking water. AMDSB has been conducting annual water testing for lead for a number of years (each July and August), and systematically flushing water in schools, prior to the start of the school day at all school sites. We want to inform you that we received notice that a water sample result at SCSS exceeded the 10 ug/L limit and have taken appropriate action, following the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks guidelines and consulting with the local health unit to resolve the issue. Depending on the circumstance, actions may include continuing normal flushing procedures, increasing flushing times, installing a filter or replacing a drinking fixture. If you would like more information, please contact the school.
