The Avon Maitland District School Board is offering students from Stratford Central and Stratford Northwestern, grades 9-12 in the 2018/2019 school year, the opportunity to participate in an exchange program with students from the Shanghai Xingzhi High School from Shanghai, China.
Twenty students in grades nine to twelve will be selected to represent our school board and will be joined by three AMDSB staff on this incredible experiential learning opportunity. The students will be twinned with a student of the same age and gender from the Shanghai Xingzhi High School.
Our students will travel to Shanghai, China between December 26 th , 2018 and January 5 th , 2019 and students from Shanghai will travel to stay with our host families during March Break 2019 - their exact travel dates are to be decided.
During the exchange, our students will attend the school on some days. Other days they will be on tours and participating in cultural experiences. We will spend a couple of days in Beijing on the return home. While hosting our families will be responsible to provide the visiting student with some evening / weekend excursions to enrich their experience. A couple of excursions will be provided by the AMDSB.
The cost per student is $3150 including taxes and will include all transportation fees, visa and airport transfers. Travel medical and cancellation insurance are required and the responsibility or the student. Students will want to take spending money, although hosting expenses are the responsibility of the participant / family.
In order to travel to China, AMDSB students will need a valid Canadian passport. It must be valid for six months after the China return date. If the AMDSB student is not a Canadian citizen, it is his/her responsibility to ensure there is proper documentation to enter China in advance of the travel dates.
Students should contact the home country’s consulate/embassy to determine the necessary visa requirements.

We acknowledge that our school lies on the traditional lands of the Anishnaabe and Haudenosaunee people, who have been the stewards of this land since the beginning. In recognition of this, may we work towards a positive, constructive relationship between the Indigenous people of Canada and ourselves.
